World Salt Awareness Week launches salt calculator

The heart and stroke foundation of South Africa has launched a Salt calculator to help people calculate their salt intake digitally. The calculator was launched on Monday to set off the start of World Salt Awareness Week taking place from the 29th - 6th March. According to the Heart foundation, 55% of the salt we consume has already been added during it’s manufacturing process. These “hidden salts” is the main reason why people are unaware of their actual salt intake. The HSFSA partnered with Unilever to create this salt calculator in order to determine what the actual intake is. 1 in 3 adults in South Africa suffer from high blood pressure caused by excessive salt intake.
