The new Origin Family-Centred Maternity Hospital is getting ready to open its doors in Panorama, Parow. This is the first midwife-led hospital in South Africa and includes many firsts, including the fact that the rooms look more like beautiful hotel rooms than hospital rooms (where husbands and even small children can stay over with the new mom), and that they have 6 water birthing baths available, as well as a machine that can measure the baby’s heartbeat when the mother is moving around or even in water – this is the first hospital in Africa to have such a piece of equipment.
