
How did the Western Cape Government violate the Constitution on Tafelberg

The Western Cape provincial government has been taken to court to halt the controversial sale of the Tafelberg School site. The applicants in the case include Reclaim the City, which campaigns for affordable housing, trustees of the organisation Ndifuna Ukwazi, former and current residents of Sea Point and a resident of Khayelitsha. The case has been filed against the Western Cape MEC for Transport and Public Works and the premier of the Western Cape, among others. While Helen Zille and MEC for Transport and Public Works, Donald Grant were defending their decisions for selling the property in Parlaiment last week, they failed to mention that the province had agreed to halt the sale of the hotly contested site until the Western Cape High Court rules on the legality of the sale.
