Wouter Basson loses his latest court bid with HPCSA
Loading player...
Apartheid-era chemical warfare expert Wouter Basson was back in the Pretoria High Court today in his drawn-out battle to keep practising as a medical doctor. But Basson lost his legal bid for the recusal of the professional conduct committee members who found him guilty of unethical conduct. The Judge ruled that Basson's application was premature and that the court could not hear it until he had exhausted his internal remedies of appeal before the Health Professions Council of SA. Three years ago, the HPCSA found Basson guilty of unethical behaviour while working on the apartheid government's weapons programme in the 1980s and early 1990s.
