South African writer Faraaz Mahomed has been named the Africa Regional Winner for his short story “The Pigeon”. Mahomed is a clinical psychologist and human rights researcher based in Johannesburg. The story is about a young man struggling with his own guilt and ambivalence about an affair, told through the narrator's surprisingly intimate relationship with a regular visitor (the pigeon).
