South Africa’s international relations minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane appeared on Al Jazeera’s Talk to Al Jazeera over the weekend and gave an interview that the Daily Vox described as “cringeworthy”. Nkoana-Mashabane sat down with Jane Dutton – a South African journalist based at Al Jazeera in Doha – and made a series of jibes at Dutton during the 22-minute interview. Since then Mashabane has received heavy criticism from the public not only on her display of denialism but her general blasé response to the questions.
