Child Abandonment in the Western Cape

Now whilst I will be touching on a very sensitive matter which involves abandoned babies. It is a very important matter as babies are very precious and unless a child that has been dumped has the ability to cry, their chances of survival and being found might be slim. In recent months the bodies of new-born babies have been discovered in public places, in Cape Town behind a fast food outlet in Athlone, and earlier this week in the Sir Lowry's Pass Village with similar cases being reported in other parts of the country. What might drive people to simply abandon a baby and what happens to babies who survive. We chat to Minister Albert Fritz, Minister of Social Development, Western Cape Government
