The Debate around restitution and the land claim process has in recent months been a big public interest matter, particularly following the Concourt Ruling on Land Restitution. In light of this the District Six Working Committee has launched a public Petition for District 6 to be Proclaimed A National Heritage Site. Now my next guest is not in anyway linked to the D6 Working Committee but will be commenting on the heritage debate and whether or not there is any basis to the argument that areas such as D6 should be recognised at a part of Heritage.

Position: anti-Apartheid Activist, leader within and member of the National Union of South African Students (NUSAS) and South African Christian Institute. He was detained under apartheid laws and eventually forced into exile. In exile he was a member and leader of International Defence and Aid Fund for Southern Africa (IDAF) and also worked with a number of organizations providing aid to SA Liberation movements. Post 1994 he has worked in the environmental (SA fishing rights) and human rights sectors.
