
Financial strain of damage at universities student protest

In recent weeks violence as a result of protest action at some of the countries universities has spiralled out of control. At the Cape Peninsula University of Technology several buildings were damaged at its Bellville and Cape Town Campuses and a case of attempted murder has now been opened by the CPUT management after two security guard were locked inside the burning building at the Bellville campus. In one of the incidents three adult males, 2 of them security guards were treated for lacerations and smoke inhalation. At other Universities such as UKZN buildings were set alight at the Pietermaritzburg campus, Tshwane University of Technology: main campus shut down by protesting students. The situation at this moment seems extremely tense as University infrastructure is being damaged in the process.
