Thank you for listening to the TechCentral podcast. In this episode, Duncan McLeod sits down with Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub for a wide-ranging interview on the telecommunications industry in South Africa.
In the podcast, Joosub tells TechCentral what he thinks about communications regulator Icasa's new regulations dealing with data expiry and the impact they could have on both Vodacom and the broader industry.
Also in the interview, he talks about the state of play with the controversial Electronic Communications Amendment Bill. What progress has been made since March, when the operators and other industry stakeholders made presentations to the department of telecoms & postal services in March. Is he hopeful that a compromise will be reached?
Joosub also talks about the spectrum crunch that Vodacom is facing, why it's crucial that the company gets access to spectrum as soon as possible and why he believes South Africa should allocate spectrum for 5G networks now, rather than waiting for the current impasse to be resolved.
There's plenty more in the interview, including Joosub's views on mobile virtual network operators, why Vodacom is planning to ramp up its investment in fibre to the home and what South Africa should be doing to prepare for 5G.
It's a great interview. Be sure not to miss it!
