The Bo-Kaap residents gathered for a public meeting at the Boorhanool centre, earlier this week, to discuss issues affecting the community. This includes the recent court interdict granted to Blok, the urban commercial developer managing the construction of an apartment block in Lion Street.
This means that any individual actively trespassing the site could be prosecuted. The judge said protests by residents in Wale street can however continue and has no bearing on the construction in Lion street.
The issue of allowing access to construction vehicles in the area was contentious. The community raised the issue of safety hazards and the damage caused on roads and infrastructure. The Bo Kaap Civic Association has opposed the interdict and requested more time to respond. Another hearing has been set down for August.
