Viceroy Research shot to fame in South Africa when it produced a damning report on Steinhoff in December last year at a time when we were just acutely aware of brewing trouble at the firm. How they conduct their work however was called into question when they produced a report on Capitec which bruised the share price but was then found not to be true, leaving us with more questions around who they are, how they conduct their work and for what purpose.
