Earlier this year at a community engagement event in Mitchell’s plain, the Minister of Police Bheki Cele, announced the policing strategy to combat crime and gang violence. This includes the recent introduction of 269 police officers deployed, from other provinces as part of Operation Thunder, to the Western Cape
However in recent weeks the situation on the Cape Flats has worsened amid the deadly gang-violence that has flared up in the communities of Mitchells Plain, Hanover Park, Bonteheuwel and Manenberg.
