Conflicting reports on future of the District Six land restitution process

There seems to be conflicting reports on how the funding for the new District Six development is expected to be managed.

This after the Standing Committee on Human Settlements recently announced that the National Department of Rural Development and Land Reform agreed to handover the budget for the District Six land restitution project to the Western Cape’s Provincial Department of Human Settlements.

"In a landmark agreement, the National Department of Rural Development and Land Reform has finally agreed to transfer the budget for the District Six land restitution programme to the DA-led Western Cape’s Provincial Department of Human Settlements.

"Additionally, the Provincial Department will begin liaising with the National Treasury regarding the transfer of the budget for District Six’s land restitution housing programme," chairperson of the Standing Committee on Human Settlements, Matlhodi Maseko.

However, speaking to VOC on Breakfast Beat this morning, the National department denied the reports.

For clarity on the situation, VOC's Yazeed Kamaldien spoke to the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Human Settlements, MMP Matlhodi Maseko. The acting Director General for the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, Rendani Sadiki.
