When you look at the moon a bit closer up you see all these craters, circular rims with level floors and usually a large mountain in the centre. And there are thousands of craters of all sizes pock-marking the surface, evidence of the Moon’s pretty violent history. There’s been no atmosphere on the moon to erode the crater features, so they’ve been there for millions of years.
So did asteroids and comets impact the Earth? They certainly did, but the atmosphere broke up some of the smaller rocks, and the wind and the rain eroded the craters.
