The National Child Protection Forum voiced concerns about amendments made to Sections 249 and 259 of the Children’s Act of 2005 published in the Government Gazette in late October last year. If passed and implemented the Law would make it illegal for anyone to charge fees for professional adoptive services.
Now while the decision to change the Child Act on adoption might make the services more accessible to the public. The Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Albert Fritz has condemned the the recent amendments, as it would further place a strain on social workers who are already inundated with cases.
