Amplats report surge in first-half profit but warns Amcu now is not the time to 'get carried away'

Anglo American Platinum has declared a chunky dividend of R11 per share. That's thanks to headline earnings more than doubling to 7.4 billion rand as the miner benefited from higher metals prices.But, Amplats has warned the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union that it musn't get too excited by this turnaround. Amplats CEO Chris Griffith says the effective 45% increase that Amcu has tabled in recent weeks would be deeply damaging and could result in the loss of thousands of jobs. As such Amplats has indicated that it will counteroffer Amcu with an inflation-related wage increase. Business Day TV caught up with Griffith for more on the company's plans going forward
