As an international aid worker, Turkish activist Nalan Dal has seen it all. But nothing could ever prepare her for what she saw in Syria, a country gripped by a civil war that has spilled over into a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions. Dal works for IHH, a Turkish humanitarian aid agency that operates in volatile areas around the world and is most renowned for organising the Gaza Freedom Flotilla.The brave relief worker was aboard the Turkish vessel Mavi Marmara, when it was attacked by Israeli forces in international waters in May 2010, for attempting to break the blockade on Gaza.
