After decades of dictatorship and two years of arguments and compromises Tunisia's new constitution has come into force. The president, Moncef Marzouki, the outgoing prime minister, Ali Larayedh, and the speaker, Mustapha Ben Jaafar, signed the document on Monday to usher in a new era in Tunisia. Tunisian legislators showed overwhelming support for the new constitution Sunday night when they voted it in by a wide margin of 200 in favor, 12 against, and 4 abstaining.
