
City faces lawsuit for fines issued to homeless people

A legal firm is leading the human rights case for seven homeless people who brought forward a lawsuit against the City of Cape Town after they were issued fine for sleeping in public places. The City has been instituting fines against street people since the beginning of July and will be challenged in court for the controversial fines, which are backed by the City’s vagrancy or nuisance by-laws.
