In a twist of developments, a District Six activist lodged an urgent application in the Western Cape High court yesterday to halt the renaming of Keizergracht to Hanover Street. Achmat Williams, a member of the District Six Reference Group, claims the public participation process for the renaming is flawed. The 11th hour application was heard just before a huge re-naming ceremony took place in Russel Street in District Six, hosted by the City of Cape Town and the District Six Working Committee.
