Across the world from Moscow to Washington thousands of people will mark the 3rd anniversary of the crisis in Syria on Thursday with candlelit vigils, the lighting up of iconic locations and the release of Banksy inspired red balloons carrying messages of hope to Syrians. About 115 humanitarian and human rights groups from 24 countries, including South Africa Forum for International Solidarity (SAFIS), Afro-Middle East Centre, CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, Oxfam and Hand in Hand for Syria, to simultaneously launch a pledge for world leaders to commit to making this the last anniversary marked by bloodshed.
