We’ve followed with great sadness the story of the series of bushfires that have burned across Australia since September last year. They’ve resulted nationally in the death of at least 33 people, destroyed thousands of homes, and have burned more than 11 million hectares of bush, forest and parks. And experts estimate some 1 billion animals have died in the blazes. In Being Green this week, we speak to Professor Christopher Dickman, an ecology expert from the University of Sydney, about the impact the fires have had on Australia’s flora and fauna.
