HOW THE PAROLE SYSTEM WORKS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Loading player...
Last week was quite a heart-wrenching one for Capetonians who were following the story of little Tazne van Wyk. The 8-year-olds murder accused, Mohiden Pangaeker, was at the centre of violent mass demonstrations outside the Goodwood magistrate court on Friday, and later the looting of a shop, torching of four dwellings, and tipping of an alleged drug-dealers car in Parow. Communities were infuriated when they found out Pangarker was a parolee, who was convicted 11 times dating back to the 1980’s. His convictions include for abduction, child neglect, culpable homicide and murder. Cape Flats residents have reached breaking point and accuse government and the criminal justice system of betraying them.
