Homeless placed at Strandfontein sports complex during lockdown period
Loading player...
Homeless people relocated to Strandfontein Sports Grounds have tried to make a break for it, reportedly after realising that the move was not just for the purpose of screening them for Covid-19. Scores of homeless people have been moved to the site in accordance with national government's lockdown regulations which require local governments to provide suitable accommodation for the most vulnerable members of society. In addition to the fierce outcry from Strandfontein residents, who claim they were not informed about the City of Cape Town’s plan to erect tents as temporary housing for the homeless, law enforcement officers have had their hands full trying to keep the destitute ‘penned in’.
