On Saturday, global experts in the halal industry came together to sign the “LAHORE Declaration”, calling for appropriate measures to promote trade of Halal industry, including food and non-food products. The declaration was signed at the 3rd International Halal Conference which concluded at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Saturday.
Before signing the declaration, representatives of Halal trade and industry, government functionaries, organisations and institutions from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Pakistan deliberated on the issues of Halal trade and industry and measures needed to promote it.
On the issue of halal, Cape Town is hosting the Food Hospitality World Africa Exhibition at the CTICC and global halal expert Professor Miriam Abdul Latif from Malaysia is in town. She has been delivering talks on the basics of the Halal Industry. She is an academic in Human Nutrition, Food Regulations and Halal Food in Malaysia.
