In Being Green this week, Glynis Crook speaks to Professor Peter Ryan, director of UCT’s FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology about a study looking at litter on the beaches in Cape Town. In collaboration with the City of Cape Town and government’s Working for Coast Programme, his research team took advantage of the absence of beachgoers during lockdown to learn more about where the litter comes from. The City hopes that, by identifying the sources of pollution, it will be able to develop and implement programmes and actions to address the problem.
