VOW FM 88.1 — The proposal by the Department of Basic Education to re-open schools on the 6th of May has been met with disdain. Education Expert Dr Pauline Hanekom schools should submit plans for contact learning before learners are allowed to return to classrooms. She says Screening of students every morning when will help identifying the coronavirus. Dr Hanekom says while it is too early to send the children back to school, it is inevitable that schools will eventually re-open, parents have to remember that children are less asymptomatic to the Covid-19 virus. Hanekom says parents will have to support the teachers in ensuring the safety of learners. Dr Hanekom was speaking to Game Bovana on the Covid report.

Student body body Cosas has also rejected the plans to have the students return to class adding that the Department of Basic Education has no plan to save the 2020 academic year. Cosas President Katleho Mangoejane says schools should re-open after the June school break.
