Mosques across the Western Cape allowed to reopen with stringent regulations

After five months, Muslims in the Western Cape may soon be praying in a mosque again. The Muslim Judicial Council says masajid may open their doors, however congegrational prayers must be strictly regulated. This decision was taken at a consultative meeting today and comes after the organization in May, urged mosques to hold off on opening until the coronovirus peak is over. The ulema body has consulted widely with government health officials and medical practitioners, as Covid-19 cases show a slight decline. The MJC says masajid can only open if they follow all the safety and health protocols as set out by national government. This includes the limit of 50 congregants. Mosques are urged to formate a Jumuah programme in line with these guidelines, to accommodate the expected increase in musallees. Goolam Fakier spoke to Shaykh Riaad Fataar of the MJC, take a listen.
