Pitso Mosimane, arguably South Africa’s most successful coach ever, has left Mamelodi Sundowns after eight seasons with the team, to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly. He leaves just weeks after completing a historic treble with the team, and four months after signing a four-year contract extension with Masandawana. While he has rightfully been sent many messages of praise for contributions to South African football, many have questioned his decision to leave so soon after extending his stay at Chloorkop. On the latest episode of the SL Podcast’s ‘The Carwash’, the crew break down Mosimane’s new bumper deal with Al Ahly.
In the full podcast, they also debate whether rumoured tensions behind the scenes may have influenced his decisions, particularly with the recent Tebogo Langerman saga fresh on everyone’s minds. In the recent Nedbank Cup final, a suspended Langerman was included in Downs’ matchday squad and was nearly introduced as a substitute. The issue could’ve seen them stripped of the title, but did see them heavily fined.
