Zondo recusal update

The country and the rule of law were seriously tested when the former president, who is widely believed to be the mastermind behind state capture, which cost the country half a trillion rand, gave Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo the middle finger with his walk out. That’s after Zuma’s counsel, advocate Muzi Sikhakhane said that they would take the decision not to recuse on review and also report Zondo to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) because “he has become a judge in a matter that involves himself”. The judge made it clear that the commission would proceed after a tea break. However, Zuma left the commission during the break without his counsel notifying the chairperson. Commission proceedings were adjourned for two days.
On Monday, the Deputy Chief Justice threw the book at Zuma.
In these two interviews Lawson Naidoo executive director at the Council for the Advancement of SA’s Constitution and Advocate Paul Hoffman, director & head of Projects Accountability Now, wade into the matter.
The bottom line is that Zuma cannot get an interdict against Zondo and without it he cannot show sufficient cause for his contempt.
