Popularity of home improvement projects still at a high

Home improvement projects continue to be popular amongst South Africans, despite the bulk of the country’s workforce being back in the office. Spokesperson for online home services marketplace, Kandua.com, Jeanne Du Plessis, says they have noticed a seven-fold rise in requests for services related to home repairs and refurbishments over the course of 2020/2021.

She tells the Business Hour that they - at Kandua.com - attribute this piqued interest in home improvements to remote working brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. The circumstances turned people’s homes into multifunctional spaces, which now function as offices, classrooms and gym spaces all at once. Du Plessis says they do not foresee this trend changing anytime soon.
