It was dubbed the House of Horrors – 227 Malherbe Street in Pretoria where paedophile and serial killer Gert van Rooyen and his accomplice Joey Haarhoff lived.
Van Rooyen and his accomplice, Joey Haarhof, were linked to the disappearance of six girls between 1988 and 1989.
Capital Park Residents and Ratepayers Association chairperson, Mike Burt, said as a community they would like to take possession of the property and through sponsors and donors develop it as a place of safety.
Wayne Helfrich, a resident and councillor, who has been campaigning through Hicklin to secure the property for the ratepayers' association, said the plan was to create an emergency place of safety and a community centre to educate people on how to prevent kidnappings, sexual harassment and assaults.
