This week on the Touchdown, we focused on the 2022 Indian Premier League auction that recently took place. The most notable South African player sold during the auction was Kagiso Rabada who was sold for R18.75 million.
Tinus van Staden, a sports journalist, explained what percentage of the auction price players earn and the percentage that is paid to Cricket South Africa.
“The players earn the entirety of their auction price and for foreign players an additional 20% of their auction price is paid to their national cricket board”, van Staden said.
The 11 South African players that will be in action at the 2022 IPL include:
Kagiso Rabada: R18.75 million
Faf du Plessis: R14.2 million
Quinton de Kock: R13.7 million
Anrich Nortje: R13.2 million
Marco Jansen: R8.5 million
David Miller: R6.1 million
Dewald Brevis: R6.1 million
Aiden Markram: R5.3 million
Rassie van der Dussen: R2 million
Dewaine Pretorius: R1 million
Lungi Ngidi: R1 million
