A giant stroke of serendipity – a script abandoned for nine years, the availability of a Hollywood star and a determined trio’s passionate pitch to Netflix - has led to a racy Afrikaans skop-skiet-en-donder series filmed in Pretoria making it onto the American streaming service.

Next month Netflix will premier its first Afrikaans series Ludik, starring  South African-born Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo who was last seen in Silvertone Siege and other local local heavyweight talents Rob Van Vuuren, Diaan Lawrenson and Zane Meas.

A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to Sunday Times that Ludik is indeed the first Afrikaans production to make it onto the service, and that it will go out globally on 26 August.
