Hearsay evidence of deceased police official permitted in Meyiwa trial

A statement by deceased Brig Philani Ndlovu was read into the record as hearsay evidence to be used during cross-examination of the first state witness in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial in the Pretoria high court on Tuesday. Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela ruled in favour of the defence, saying it was in the interest of justice that the statement be read for the first state witness Sgt Thabo Mosia to respond. Mosia had testified he was called and assigned to the crime scene by Ndlovu.
