An IT businesswoman’s whistleblowing on alleged irregularities in a R119m Home Affairs department security systems contract and her testimony before an internal disciplinary hearing of a senior official led to the murder of her husband.
TimsLIVE Investigations can reveal that two months before Marumo Phenya was gunned down in Roodepoort on 17 October, he and his wife, Johannah Phenya, owner of Foursight Business IT Solutions, received a chilling telephone call warning them that a hit had been taken out on the couple.
The caller, identifying himself as Xolani, urged the couple, who were celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary in Greece, to meet with him.TimesLIVE has been given exclusive access to a recording of the call.
