Tribute for Alex Shakoane

Flamboyant, passionate, loyal, eloquent, intellectual, fashionable, vibrant. Those are, amongst a few words that comes to mind when one mentions the now late Alex Shakoane. Extremely weird having to refer to him as late. Very surreal. A long-serving Mamelodi Sundowns public relations officer, Bra Alex wasn't just a face of football at Sundowns, but of South African football at large. Fondly known as “Goldfingers”, this man was just that, gold, serving the Brazilians and the game with distinction for the past 30 years. He was the club’s spokesperson, marketing guru and Patrice Motsepe’s right-hand man, a darling of the fans whom they relied on for breaking club news. This is a loss that goes beyond Sundowns. Beyond Pretoria. It’s a South African loss. What a life lived. Let’s pay tribute to him with Tiyani Mabunda.
