We may talk about trauma as a concept, but for many, it is a lived reality. With both historical and recurring trauma as yet unresolved, South Africans have many wounds to heal.
It was during the July 2021 Riots that we saw how deep these psychological wounds are in our young people. And so, TSBU clinical psychologists Linda Mthenjane and Gugu Gigaba started the bigger conversation in the dedicated podcast series: Trauma: The Silent Scream.
In the first episode, they talk us through what trauma is, where it is rooted, and how it manifests. In the second episode, Linda and Gugu are joined by clinical neuropsychologist Dr Shona Fraser. Together, they explore what emotional trauma does to the brain, how trauma shapes our daily realities, how it affects our bodies, and what we can do ourselves to start healing.
As you listen to these podcasts during Youth Month, we invite you to keep the conversation going. Connect with us on social media to share your stories, your questions, your hopes and dreams, and even your fears.
