Transport minister slams City of Cape Town for 'illegal' bylaws during taxi strike

Transport minister Sindisiwe Chikunga says the City of Cape Town has “overreached” and “extended” legislation that already exists by adding a sanction that does not exist in the legislation on the taxi industry. Chikunga said the two acts, namely the National Land Transport Act and National Road Transport Act, are being implemented and executed incorrectly.The minister was addressing the media in Midrand on Tuesday on government’s interventions in the taxi strike called by Santaco in the Western Cape.
