According to the South African government’s official website, there are about 123 State Owned Enterprises in the country, operating at national, provincial and local levels. They are crucial to the development of South Africa, they play an instrumental role in ensuring success in a wide range of areas, and are responsible for an unimaginable number of dependants. But how are these SEOs being governed? OFM Content Manager, Elzette Boucher-Kruger, speaks to principal and vice-chancellor of the North-West University, Prof Bismark Tyobeka, who’s called for a meritocratic approach to the appointment of executives and board members in these institutions.
