On 1 July 2024, the new AARTO traffic system is expected to start rolling out across South Africa (it’s currently only active in Johannesburg & Tshwane). This means that there will be two traffic fine systems in. operation across the country. For those who drive in Gauteng and beyond and in other provinces, it will be important to know how the different fines systems work so that they can remain compliant and not face the embarrassment and inconvenience of accruing additional penalties or having traffic warrants to their name.
