There were mixed fortunes for the Bloemfontein teams in round one of the 2025 Varsity Cup last night.
At the Danie Craven Stadium the University of Stellenbosch Maties beat the defending champions the University of the Free State Shimlas 41-37.
The Shimlas conceded no less than four yellow cards and they will want to address this before hosting Wits next week.
Over in Johannesburg, the Central University of Technology Ixias beat UJ 29-13 in bucking rain.
The Ixias forwards coach, Ollie le Roux, told OFM Sport he was proud of his chargers’ effort.
