GUEST – Lunga Siyo, CEO of Telkom Consumer
Telkom has posted its latest interim results and while the group’s profit dipped slightly, the real headline is the surge in mobile numbers. We spoke to Lunga Siyo, the CEO of Telkom Consumer, to unpack what’s driving the operator’s strongest prepaid growth in years.
With group revenue up 3.4% to R22.1 billion, data revenue climbing in the double digits, and the consumer business delivering a solid 6.4% uplift, Telkom is leaning hard into its mobile-first strategy. Prepaid subscribers jumped 9%, helping grow the total base to 24.5 million users. And despite ARPU pressures, mobile data adoption exploded up 26.7% year-on-year.
