Mashela Mogaila Mokgabudi “SHELA THE VISIONARY”
Grew up in a low-income family and experienced firsthand the challenges
of accessing dignified sanitary care during her periods—a reality that
millions of girls across Africa continue to face. Determined to break the
barriers of period poverty, she turned her personal experiences into a
driving force for change.
Her entrepreneurial journey began in 2009, inspired by a promise she
made to herself at age 12: to end period poverty in Africa. After a decade
practicing physiotherapy (BSc Physiotherapy Hons, WITS, 1998) and
furthering her studies with a Masters and PhD in Pharmacokinetics (South
Dakota State University, 2008), she leveraged her academic expertise to
address this pressing issue.
