The Lineage of Grace – Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary: How God Uses Imperfect Women

In this episode of Mother's Corner on Radio Cape Pulpit, host Barbara Jafter delivers a powerful, Spirit-led message on the lineage of grace – the five women mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary.
Barbara reflects on the incredible truth that God uses imperfect, broken, and often scandalous stories to bring about His redemptive plan. Each of these women faced deep pain, rejection, loss, shame, or scandal – yet God wove their lives into the family line of the Messiah.
Tamar (Unveiled): Left widowed and betrayed, she took drastic action to secure justice; God worked through her messy pursuit and made her an ancestor of David and Jesus.
Rahab (Unashamed): A prostitute from an enemy city, she showed great faith and was spared; her scarlet cord foreshadowed the blood of Christ.
Ruth (Unshaken): A loyal Moabite widow who left everything familiar; her faithfulness led her to Boaz, and she became the great-grandmother of King David.
Bathsheba (Unspoken): Her story involves adultery, loss, and grief, yet she became the mother of Solomon and a key figure in the royal line.
Mary (Unafraid): A young, pure, and engaged virgin who said yes to God's impossible ask – and became the mother of Jesus.
Barbara emphasizes that grace does not sanitize the record – it includes the hard truths and still moves forward through them. The message is one of hope for single mothers and all women: God doesn't need tidy stories or clean hands. He meets us in our brokenness, redeems our mess, and writes something eternal through our lives. The episode includes practical reflection questions and an invitation to trust God's redemptive plan in every season.
