When God Gives You Strength for the Journey – A Single Mom's Story of Faith and Resilience

In this episode of Mother's Corner on Radio Cape Pulpit, host Barbara Jafter speaks with Angelique "Angie" Smith – a single mother of three children (two daughters and a son) who became a mother at just 18 years old. Her journey is a powerful testimony of faith, resilience, and God's provision over the years.

Angie shares honestly about the challenges of becoming a mother so young – having to grow up quickly, find herself while raising a child, and carry the dual role of both mother and father. She acknowledges the emotional and financial burdens of being the sole provider, and recalls moments when she would sit and cry, feeling overwhelmed and unsure where the next meal would come from. Yet through it all, her faith carried her. She learned to humble herself, turn to God, and ask for help – and time and again, provision came in unexpected ways, often through people knocking on her door.

She highlights the importance of community and support – particularly her "goals" (a circle of single-mom friends) who would show up at her door, sit with her, and refuse to leave until she was okay. She also credits her mother and grandmother for planting seeds of faith and strength in her life.

Angie works as a house mother at Eros School, caring for physically challenged children – a role she describes as a calling, not just a job. She also has a passion for singing and has performed at private functions, clubs, and will be singing the national anthem at an event at Green Point Stadium.

Her closing message to young mothers is: "Don't be scared. Don't give up. It's going to work out for the good. You are stronger than you know." She encourages listeners to keep pushing, keep hoping, and keep trusting – because the blessing often comes right after the attack.
