People of Note - John Simon

Rodney Trudgeon’s guest on People of Note this week is the South African born composer JOHN SIMON whose new work “Seeing Stars” is going to be premiered by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra on Thursday 29 June.
John Simon studied in Cape Town to be an economist but he ended up studying music at Trinity College and the Royal College in London. His works have been widely performed and broadcast in South Africa as well as in the UK, where he now lives, and Europe. He has also worked extensively with the BBC. A number of his more important works were written in response to the political situation in South Africa and were consequently ignored or banned during the apartheid era.
