The winger Makazole Mapimpi will make his Toyota Free State Cheetahs debut on Sunday against Western Province in the Currie Cup. Mapimpi was named on the left wing, while the Springbok Raymond Rhule is being rested.
The fullback, Malcom Jaer, who joined the side along with Mapimpi from the Southern Kings is also on debut. Jaer, will however play off the bench along with Rayno Benjamin. The Springbok flank, Oupa Mohoje, has been named in the starting XV.
The coach Rory Duncan told OFM Sport that they are excited to unleash Mapimpi and Jaer.
“He’s had a good week of training and he looks pretty good and comfortable in the position.
“We’re excited to this him this weekend, obviously in the absence of Raymond Rhule he is going to come in and fill his shoes.
“Malcolm was a game breaker for the Southern Kings in the Super Rugby this year.
“He opened and created a lot of space, we’re hoping that bringing off the bench he can do the same for us.”
The lock Carl Wegner was not considered for selection after breaking a bone. At this stage it’s unknown where the fracture is, but it’s believed that it is nothing too serious.
Sunday’s match at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 14:30.
