Bloemfontein Celtic made a massive statement over the weekend by knocking the 2016 Telkom Knockout Runners-up, SuperSport United out of the tournament, and this after coming back from 2-0 down.
Aubrey Madiba broke the deadlock at the Petrus Molemela Stadium in the 31st minute with the simplest of taps in for a 1-0 lead.
Six minutes into the second stanza Jeremy Brockie was on the receiving end of a great long past and he sent the ball rocketing into the back of the net, for a 2-0 lead. The commentator even commented that Brockie’s goal was game, set and match for SuperSport.
Nineteen minutes from time SuperSport handled the ball in the area and Mbhazima Rikhotso sent the spot kick into the back of the net to mount the comeback. Four minutes later Jacky Moshegwa levelled matters to see the game end at 2-2. No goalless were scored in extra.
The captain and goalkeeper, Patrick Tignymed proved to be the hero at the slaughterhouse, as he first saved a penalty, and then scored the penalty which sent Celtic into the quarter finals.
